To become a pilot, you must complete theoretical (Ground Classes) and practical training (Flight Training), pass written exams and flying tests. After completing training, all records and results are submitted to DGCA for the issuance of a Commercial Pilot Licence.

You must have completed Class 10+2 (or equivalent) with Math and Physics as compulsory subjects. After graduating, you may still enrol in CPL courses.

Pilot Training consists of seven examinations — four core exams (Air Regulations, Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Technical General) plus two Technical Specific exams depending on aircraft type. You must also pass the RTR Licence examination administered by WPC India.

Before beginning your Pilot Training, you must obtain a Class II medical examination from DGCA-approved medical examiners. Before applying for your Pilot License, you must obtain a Class I medical examination.

You can be trained to fly commercial aircraft in 9 to 12 months with dedicated training.

In India, aviation professionals can earn up to ₹2.5 – 3.5 lakh per month with less than a year of experience. An experienced commercial pilot's monthly pay can range from ₹50 lakh to ₹80 lakh annually. They also receive additional rewards and incentives.

DGCA requires a total of 200 hours of flight training including 100 hrs as PIC, 50 hrs solo cross country, 10 take-off and landing by night, 15 hours multi-engine, and skill tests by day and night.
